About Me

I am currently attending Liverpool Community College Arts centre where I am on the second year of the BTEC National Diploma in three dimensional design. The digital portfolio I have submitted is of the work that I completed in the first year of the course. The twelve slides include a compilation of images from each of the four projects that were assigned to me. I have chosen work that I hope reflects my creativity and imagination as well as my practical abilities. This second year I am intending to demonstrate my interest in interior design by using interior space division in a product I am currently designing where I will be mathematically allocating space to create compartmentalisation. My reasons for applying for a design based programme are because I am interested in how living and working environments influence the day to day lives of the people that use them and how well-designed interior space can have a positive effect on human life in general. I would like to inspire people to care about their living environment by exploring how they interact with their surroundings including inanimate objects such as furniture. Trying to find solutions to everyday problems provides motivation for me to want to think of new ideas such as lighting and storage solutions. Also the fundamental necessities for human beings to enjoy a healthy quality of life such as the need for both socialising and privacy as well as sanitary needs are of interest to me.

Project 1 practical task- Construction of a simple pencil holder (2 slides)

My initial ideas (above) and development boards (below) show progression from simple sketched drawings to miniature models and three dimensional CAD images.

Project 3 - Produce a designer inspired candle holder. ( one slide, below)

Drawings of my design and variations of my idea as well as a photograph of the to scale size mock model that I made out of paper and card.

The above and below slides show how I researched the work of other designers and incorporated the ideas of existing products into my own work.

I was also required to research antropametric data and consider ergonomic seating positions during this project as it was a human scale design.

The last slide shows photographs of materials and the construction process. Here I could demonstrate resourcefulness and practical creativity.
